A contractor has died today while working on repairs to the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.
The accident took place just past Ramah on I-10 West near mile marker 134. Officials with the DOTD say the contractor was killed when a vehicle slammed into equipment, forcing it in turn to fatally hit the worker.
Repairs were being made to bridge joints during off-peak travel hours.
Louisiana State Police are investigating the accident.
