State lawmakers say that former Democratic Governor Kathleen Blanco is under hospice care.
The announcement came yesterday from the legislature, almost four months after Blanco herself said there was "no escape" from the incurable ocular melanoma that had spread throughout her body. It was first detected in 2011.
Blanco, who is 76, served as governor from 2004 to 2008, and a four-year, term prior to that as the state's lieutenant governor.
