The Capital Area Road and bridge District is exploring another option to help commuters cross the Mississippi River.
Made up of representatives from East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, Ascension, Iberville and Livingston parishes, a representative from the DOT and a representative from the Governor's office, the group met for the first time today to discuss funding options.
The group was formed when Senate Bill 496, sponsored by Senator Rick Ward, was passed. Ward says funds would initially be put up by a private donor, but loans would be repaid using a toll system.
