Human Trafficking Awareness Month In Louisiana

This week on Of Interest To You, hear from Gov. John Bel Edwards, First Lady Donna Edwards and others about efforts to combat human trafficking in Louisiana - including a mother whose teenage daughter was the victim of trafficking.

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month and the state was recently awarded a $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Justice Department. Of nearly 700 cases of confirmed or possible sex trafficking in the state in 2017, more than half involved children.

Edwards says Louisiana is doing more than any other state in the nation to identify and help these victims and that Louisiana is the only state to receive a DOJ grant this year.
