The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is announcing more closures to the Sunshine Bridge.
The bridge was re-opened to two-way traffic in December after a barge collided with the bridge and caused damage back in October.
Painting of the new diagonal bracing is expected to be done this week, and the bridge will be closed on the weekend of January 19th and 20th to install the new bracing.
Final touch-ups and repairs to the bridge are expected to be finished by February.
“With the start of a new year, we’re eager to get the emergency repairs completed so we can move forward on the previously planned project that will make this bridge safer and will extend its life,” said DOTD Secretary Shawn D. Wilson, Ph.D. in a press release. “Crews have been working hard and we’ve made significant progress, but we can’t rush the remaining repairs.”
