A retired East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputy is dead following a head-on crash in Zachary.
The sheriff's office says Claude Smith, who was employed from 2003 until February of last year, was killed when a vehicle crossed the center line near Tucker and Jackson roads. A second person suffered a broken leg and was taken to the hospital.
The crash happened around six yesterday morning.
