On this week's Of Interest To You, the President and CEO of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank is asking for your help this holiday season.
Mike Manning tells OITY that wave after wave of natural disasters in recent years - the 2016 flood, hurricanes Harvey, Florence and Michael and California wildfires - have left pantries bare at food banks across the country.
"What we are seeing now from the response to the natural disasters is that the supply of healthy food product is not readily available for procurement. This leads to a more competitive environment to secure food. With less product at a higher cost, it means empty shelves at a time when we would not have expected it," Manning said in a post on the Food Bank's website.
Also, as we continue to get closer to Christmas, are you planning to spend more this holiday season? Wallethub analyst Jill Gonzales says you're not alone. Also, she'll let us know about some little-known benefits you might not even know you had when you use your credit card, and what to watch out for if you're opening a new card to get a special financing deal.
Of Interest To You is a weekly public affairs program of iHeartRadio Baton Rouge.
