61% of voters in East Baton Rouge approved a new half-cent sales tax Saturday that will go towards numerous road construction projects.

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome thanked voters for supporting her MovEBR plan. "When I ran for Mayor-President, I committed to voters I would deliver a comprehensive plan to address and alleviate traffic congestion in East Baton Rouge Parish.

"Citizens have chosen to invest in the future of this parish. Move EBR will not only reduce traffic congestion and improve our infrastructure, it will enhance the quality of life for generations to come," Broome said in a statement.

39% of voters tried to put the brakes on the tax, which will be on the books for 30 years.
