BATON ROUGE- This morning the jersey of the late Wayde Sims will be retired from U-high.
Earlier this month LSU opened its season at the PMAC, by playing a tribute video to Wayde Sims. His parents, Wayne and Faye, were also presented with a game ball and the flag that flew in the PMAC for more than a decade.
Thursday night, just down the street from Sims high school will honor the forward by immortalizing his number 44. It will be the first jersey, in any sport, retired by U-high and just looking at Sims' stats alone while he was a cub its a well-deserved honor.
The all-state selection was named the 2014-2015 Louisiana Gatorade Player of the year and won three state championships during the Cubs' three-peat from 2014 to 2016.
Twice, the LHSAA recognized Sims as the most outstanding player who during his senior season averaged 21 points, nine rebounds and two assists per game before following his father's footsteps and attending LSU where he was set to enter his junior season when he was gunned down.
