The National Hurricane Center is backing down significantly the chances a tropical wave near the Leeward Islands and Puerto Rico will develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm.
Tuesday's update told a different story, with chances of development dropped to 20% over the next five days. "Significant development of this system is not expected due to unfavorable upper-level winds and interaction with the islands of the Greater Antilles," read the 1pm EST tropical weather outlook from the NHC.
The wave still brings a threat of locally heavy rainfall to parts of the Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
