Dixon Correctional Worker Fired For Malfeasance In Office

Officials with the Louisiana Department of Corrections say a former correctional cadet is out of a job after being arrested for malfeasance in office.

They say 23-year-old Kelvin Smith of Opelousas was fired yesterday after allegedly admitting to conspiring to smuggle contraband to an inmate at Dixon Correctional Institute.

Smith says he was being paid to bring cigarette lighters and tobacco into the prison.
