Tropical Storm Michael formed south of Cozumel, Mexico Sunday.
As of 1 p.m., the storm was nearly stationary off the coast of Mexico with winds of 40 miles per hour.
Michael is forecast to bring heavy rains over western Cuba later today and tonight, says the National Hurricane Center. Tropical storm warnings are in effect for provinces of Cuba and parts of the coast of Mexico.
The system should enter the Gulf sometime on Monday. It is forecast to reach hurricane strength before a Wednesday landfall currently forecast along the Florida coast. For now, the impact to Louisiana, if any, remains unknown.
