The distribution of new bullet-proof vests is underway to first responders in the Baton Rouge area.
Sheriff's deputies unveiled the state-of-the-art vests that are much lighter, more comfortable and protect against handgun and rifle fire.
It's said to be a first step in the nonprofit Capital Area Law Enforcement's mission to better protect officers and emergency responders, the group already raising a million dollars towards the effort.
Baton Rouge patrol officers will be getting the vests in the weeks and months ahead.
