The National Hurricane Center said Monday that Tropical Depression Kirk did not meet the requirements for tropical cyclone status as the system did not have a closed circulation.
While advisories were discontinued on Kirk, forecasters will continue to keep an eye on its remnants for possible regeneration.
Subtropical Storm Leslie continues to meander in the Atlantic Ocean and is no threat to land at this time. A non-tropical low pressure system could form north of Leslie by mid-week and the two systems could merge over the central Atlantic by the end of the week.
Forecasters are also watching a broad area of low pressure located between Bermuda and the Bahamas. Conditions could become slightly more favorable for development in the next 24 to 48 hours as the low drifts near the East Coast.
