Gordon remains at tropical storm strength, the National Hurricane Center said Tuesday afternoon.
The 1 p.m. update kept Gordon's maximum winds at 65 miles per hour as it maintained a northwest course at 15 miles per hour for a Tuesday night landfall along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Most of the activity remained on the eastern side of the storm, bringing rains to the Florida panhandle.
Gordon could still have enough time in the Gulf to strengthen into a low-end category 1 hurricane at landfall. Officials note, however, there's not much difference between a strong tropical storm and a weak hurricane, so residents should remain vigilant.
