Tropical Storm Gordon formed over the upper Florida Keys Monday morning, prompting a tropical storm warning for parts of South Florida.
Gordon was moving quickly to the west-northwest at 17 miles per hour with maximum winds of 45 miles per hour.
A hurricane hunter aircraft is scheduled to check out the storm on Monday.
Gordon is not expected to reach hurricane strength, but could make landfall as a strong tropical storm close to the Louisiana/Mississippi state line early Wednesday morning.
A tropical storm warning is in effect from the Alabama/Florida state line to just east of Morgan City. A flash flood watch is also in effect for southeast Louisiana.
