A hurricane warning is now in place from the mouth of the Pearl River to the Alabama/Florida border as Tropical Storm Gordon continues a quick west-northwest movement in the Gulf of Mexico as of Monday afternoon.
Gordon is now expected to reach category 1 hurricane strength shortly before landfall late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning just east of the Louisiana/Mississippi border.
A tropical storm warning remains in effect for southeast Louisiana.
Voluntary evacuations have been called for Grand Isle and for areas outside the levee protection system in New Orleans.
