A tropical storm watch was upgraded to a tropical storm warning Monday morning by the National Hurricane Center as the expected Tropical Storm Gordon nears the Gulf of Mexico.
The warning area includes southeast Louisiana, including Baton Rouge and New Orleans. It stretches from the Alabama-Florida border westward to east of Morgan City. A storm surge warning is also in place from the Mississippi-Alabama border westward to the mouth of the Mississippi.
A flash flood watch will also be in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday night.
As of 4 a.m. Monday, the system remained a potential tropical cyclone as the National Hurricane Center noted it did not have a well-defined center, but they did expect it would strengthen into Gordon later on Monday.
