A big federal grant will allow officials in East Baton Rouge in fighting a major problem that contributes to the growth of the mosquito population.
The Mosquito Abatement and Rodent Control office was recently awarded $500,000 to buy an industrial shredder which can shred tires.
Tire piles are a growing problem and they are perfect nesting and breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Officials say there are thousands of tires dumped all across the community.
