One Dead After Sunday I-10 Crash Near Grosse Tete

At least one person is dead following a crash on I-10 East nearly LA-77 near Grosse Tete.

State police responded to the accident around nine last night.  Four other people were reportedly injured in the crash that forced a shutdown of the interstate for about an hour causing a miles-long traffic backup.

WBRZ News 2 identifes the victim as 28-year-old Albert Pickney II:

According to a release, Pickney was traveling eastbound on I-10 in a 2007 Dodge Charger. For reasons still under investigation, Pickney stopped his car in the right-hand lane and began walking in the travel lanes.

As he was walking, Pickney was hit by a 2011 Honda Pilot driven by 39-year-old Amanda Bladsacker and a 2017 Nissan Altima driven by 20-year-old Jose Alvardo Jr. Pickney was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bladsacker and Alvardo were properly restrained and were not injured. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but toxicology samples were taken from Pickney, Bladscaker, and Alvardo for anlaysis.
