Bribery Trial Of Ascension Parish President Ends In Acquittal

Ascension Parish President Kenny Matassa

The bribery trial of Ascension Parish President Kenny Matassa is over, ending Wednesday afternoon with his acquittal.

He had been accused of bribing a Gonzales City Council candidate in 2016. A motion to acquit was granted by the judge.

Matassa and his attorney said the exchange of cash that was secretly recorded was a "friendly loan" to Wayne Lawson and not, as claimed, a bribe to get Lawson to bow out of a council race.
