Category 2 Chris Continues To Move Away From U.S.

Hurricane Chris is moving northeastward away from the United States and over open Atlantic Ocean waters.

The National Hurricane Center says Chris is a Category 2 storm with top winds of 100 miles-an-hour. As of 10 a.m., it was located about 440 miles east-northeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.

Swells generated by Hurricane Chris could cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions along the coast of the mid-Atlantic states.
