A ban on what's known as "lunch shaming" won't become law in Louisiana.
The Advocate reports the measure would prevent students who have unpaid lunch accounts from being embarrassed or penalized.
The Senate Education Committee rejected the House-backed bill Thurday.
Some school officials say they worry the legislation would leave them liable for outstanding debts, but proponents say children shouldn't be singled out for their parents' actions.
