Teacher run over, killed outside school Monday

ICYMI: A woman is dead after an accident outside a local school Monday afternoon. Authorities say the victim was 66-year-old Edith Atkinson, a longtime teacher at the school. Chief Deputy Coroner Joe Gannon told WBRZ that Atkinson was walking around the back of her husband's truck when his foot slipped off the brake and he hit the gas by mistake. She was pinned between the back bumper of the truck and the front of a bus. STORY:

A woman employed as a career and college counselor at a school in New Roads is dead after being struck on campus by a vehicle her 74-year-old husband was driving.

Police say 66-year-old Edith Atkinson was pinned between the couple's truck and a school bus at False River Academy when it lunged backward after her husband's foot slipped onto the accelerator.

She died of her injuries at the hospital.
