A three-member panel of Louisiana's parole board gives a thumbs-down to the release of a man convicted of killing an East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputy investigating a reported theft.
Henry Montgomery, who was 17 and playing hooky when he shot Deputy Charles Hurt and is now 71, was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life.
The two-to-one vote against parole was blamed on Montgomery's only taking two classes toward his GED since being incarcerated.
