A man with both a criminal history and one of mental problems is jailed on multiple charges after opening fire on a Baton Rouge police officer, severely wounding him.
The gunfire occurred Sunday night when police responded to a shooting incident, only to be fired upon allegedly by 34-year-old Eugene Thomas Jr.
The officer hospitalized was hit by shrapnel and glass as bullets ripped through his patrol car. Officials say he's expected to make a full recovery.
