A Baton Rouge police officer is recovering after either being hit by a bullet or by shrapnel late last night after someone opened fire on him in Old South Baton Rouge.
WBRZ News 2 reports the officer was wounded after arriving to investigate a reported shooting on Lettsworth. The suspect was taken into custody several blocks away on Harding Street.
Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome said she visited with the officer and was relieved to learn he would make a full recovery. "We express our deepest gratitude for his brave service, and I ask for all residents to keep this officer and his family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," she added.
State police have taken over the investigation, which is protocol for an officer-involved shooting.
