A committee appointed by Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome meets later today to start whittling down the list of police chief candidates.
At this point there are eleven finalists. Only one of the 12 applicants failed to advance after taking a civil service board exam.
The names of five finalists will be sent to Broome for her consideration.
“The selection of our new chief of police is of great importance to the men and women in blue, and to the citizens who must engage with them for successful policing,” she said.
