Sheriff Believes Gonzales Man Found Dead Was Hit & Run Victim

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office now believes that Brian Tumas was a victim of a hit-and-run.

The 44-year-old Gonzales man was found with severe injuries not far from his Pelican Point home last Friday morning after he left for work. He later died at a local hospital.

"As previously reported, the Monday autopsy revealed evidence of injuries of the deceased from his head, torso, and legs; classic indicators of being hit by a moving vehicle," said Sheriff Jeff Wiley on Facebook Thursday.

Investigators then consulted with an accident reconstruction specialist with the Baton Rouge Police Department, who agreed with their conclusion.

Wiley is asking for anyone who lives, works or travels in the Greens Pelican Point area who may have information to call 225-621-4636, text the APSO's anonymous tip line at 847411 or call the Greater Baton Rouge Crimestoppers at 225-344-STOP (7868).

"I offer sympathies to the Tumas family and to their friends and I thank the Greens Community residents for being so helpful in this tragic time," the sheriff concluded.
