When voters head to the polls in Gonzales this Saturday, town officials are hoping they'll approve a sales tax increase.
It's a proposed half-cent hike to take effect the first of the year and to continue indefinitely. The increase is expected to generate an additional $3.5 million a year.
The funds would be dedicated to fire and police protection, a new civic center and a community outreach center where youth activities will take place.
