Tropical Waves In Atlantic Attract Attention

The National Hurricane Center says two tropical waves in the Atlantic have a high chance of becoming tropical depressions in the next five days.

One wave is located about 800 miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. The other is south of the islands. It's too early to know if either will threaten the Gulf Coast.

To the waves' northwest, Tropical Storm Jose continues its lazy drift in the Atlantic. A west-northwest motion is expected to continue through the weekend before curving north to northeast starting on Sunday. Jose could also restrengthen into a hurricane by Friday.

Depending on when that turn begins, Jose could threaten parts of the East Coast early next week.
