A Baton Rouge mother will be spending a few decades in prison after pleading guilty yesterday in the December 2014 death of her two-year-old daughter.
Twenty-three-year-old Candice Smith was jailed three years ago on charges of first-degree murder and cruelty to juveniles. Authorities say the toddler had suffered various injuries while being abused but died after she was pushed, hitting her head against a shower wall.
Smith entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter, as well as child cruelty, and was sentenced to serve 50 years behind bars.
