Hurricane Irma is gaining strength again as it heads towards Florida.
In its latest update, the National Hurricane Center said Irma is about 90 miles southeast of Key West. Hurricane-force winds and heavy rain are already hitting the Keys and parts of southern Florida.
Irma's storm surges will threaten Florida's west coast tomorrow. Officials warn that neighborhoods from Naples to Tampa Bay could be submerged as the storm moves north.
Irma is currently a Category 3 storm with sustained winds at 120 miles-per-hour. Governor Rick Scott said 15 to 18 inches of rain is expected across the entire state, with the Florida Keys getting as much as 25 inches.
Several tornado warnings and watches have been issued for south Florida ahead of Hurricane Irma's arrival. Tornados are also possible for south Florida tonight.
Over 6 million people in Florida are under evacuation orders, and 70,000 people are in nearly 400 shelters across the state.
The Red Cross is on the scene in Florida helping people cope with Hurricane Irma. Thousands of trained disaster relief workers have been mobilized and truckloads of supplies have been delivered to shelters. The organization is urging people to download the Emergency Red Cross App. The app includes an "I'm Safe" feature which allows people to stay connected with family members.
The Red Cross has a call out for volunteer nurses. Medical professionals can sign up at Redcross.org.
Anyone who wants to make a $10 donation can do it by texting the word Irma to 90999.
