Jose is now the third major hurricane of the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season after reaching category 3 strength Thursday afternoon.
The storm's winds have increased to 120 miles per hour as it continues to move west-northwest in the Atlantic Ocean.
The National Hurricane Center notes that having two major hurricanes in the Atlantic Basin at the time same is uncommon. The last time that happened was in 2010.
