As expected, a tropical depression in the far southwestern Gulf became Tropical Storm Katia overnight.
With little in the way of steering currents in that region, Katia is expected to meander in that general area for a few days before turning towards the coast of Mexico for a weekend landfall.
Katia is no threat to the Gulf Coast at this time.
