A tropical depression formed Tuesday afternoon in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico and the National Hurricane Center says the depression could become Tropical Storm Katia in the next 48 hours.
For now, with little to steer the depression, it's expected to meander in the southwestern Gulf before moving towards Mexico by the weekend.
It is not a threat to Louisiana at this time.
