Hurricane Irma regained category 3 status Friday after an eyewall replacement cycle. Maximum sustained winds were also up a bit to 120 miles per hour.
Irma is expected to dip to the south-southwest over the weekend as it moved around a high pressure system and before making a turn to the northwest next week.
It likely won't be until then before we know for certain whether Irma will threaten the United States. The more immediate threat is to the Lesser Antilles.
