Irma Rapidly Grows To Cat 2 Hurricane In Atlantic

Hurricane Irma is well away from the Gulf Coast but it quickly became one to watch Thursday.

Irma went from tropical storm to category 2 strength with maximum winds of 100 miles per hour in a matter of hours. The National Hurricane Center expect Irma to grow further and could be a category 4 storm with max winds of 130 miles per hour in a few days.

For now, it's unknown if Irma will threaten the United States. The storm could be approaching the Leeward Islands by the middle of next week.
