Franklin Hits Hurricane Strength Before 2nd Landfall

TS Franklin 1pm Wed 8-9-17

Franklin became the first hurricane of the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season as it approached its second landfall along the coast of Mexico Wednesday.

The center of the storm should make landfall in Veracruz either tonight or early Thursday. The storm should rapidly weaken after that.

Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center are also watching two areas of low pressure in the Atlantic that have a chance for further development. For now, they are no threat to the Gulf Coast.
