Senator John Kennedy is raising concerns about a Baton Rouge anti-gang initiative to Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome.
Louisiana's junior U.S. senator told the Weston Broome in a letter yesterday that he was troubled by the city-parish's distribution of funding to the Baton Rouge Area Violence Elimination program, or "BRAVE" for short.
Senator Kennedy took particular issue in the letter to a $9800 contract intended for an activist associated with BRAVE who said at last week's Metro Council meeting that last year's shootings of three Baton Rouge cops was justified.
Mayor-President Weston Broome Monday announced the city-parish is indefinitely canceling all contracts with the BRAVE program.
