BR Catholic Church Dealing With Priest Shortage

Vision Of Holy Family Brings People To Florida Church

Catholic Church leaders in Baton Rouge are recommending remedies for a priest shortage.

The Diocese of Baton Rouge announced Saturday that masses should be cut at the region's 67 parishes to allow priests to lead multiple congregations. The number of priests in the Baton Rouge area dropped last year to 100, from a recent peak of 146.

During the same period, the number of people regularly attending service in the area has risen from 172,000 to 235,000 parishioners.
