DOTD announced Friday that a bridge closure on Nicholson Drive should last around 5 weeks, weather permitting, as emergency repairs continues.
The bridge near Brightside Drive and before Gardere was closed Monday after "a routine inspection found the timber-supported bridge has severe deterioration in most of its substructure" DOTD said in a statement.
The department is driving piles and reinforcing the timber with steel, which DOTD calls a "common" type of repair for timber bridges, to keep it in service until its scheduled replacement early next year.
Burbank Drive is the suggested alternate route.
