(WBRZ News 2) Southern University cautioned its students about the importance of maintaining a positive image on social media but stopped short of confirming any investigation into reports a high-ranking school official is seen on a sex tape with an underling.

The video was posted on a pornographic website but has since been removed. The video shows a woman and a man having sex with each other.

In a statement to WBRZ Tuesday evening, campus officials called the video a “private” one that ended up being posted on the internet. In the statement, the university questioned whether the video being posted was done in malice and suggested a crime may have occurred with its posting.

“Because of implications that a cyber-crime may have occurred, we take matters like this very seriously,” the university wrote in a statement.

“... we advise and caution our students and employees on the importance of data security as well as the ramifications of their conduct on social media. We will continue to take every measure to ensure that our students and staff understand that we want to ensure their safety and well being both on campus and online.”

Southern University would not elaborate on the current employment status of the individuals in the video, who WBRZ is not identifying at this time.
