The National Weather Service is giving a better chance for an expected area of low pressure to become a tropical system sometime in the next five days.
The low is expected to form over the northwestern Caribbean Sea and the Yucatan Peninsula this weekend. "Conditions appear to be favorable for gradual development of this system while it moves slowly northwestward toward the southern Gulf of Mexico by early next week," read the Thursday morning Tropical Weather Outlook from the NHC. For now, forecasters give it a 50% chance of further development over the next five days.
Meanwhile, a tropical wave continues move quickly through the tropical Atlantic "producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms," said the update. Further development chances remain low at 20%.
