(WBRZ News 2) A shakeup at LSU Police is underway, and LSU finally released details after hours of blocking information Friday morning.
LSU Police Chief Lawrence Rabalais is no longer with the department. A spokesperson for the university likened the situation to private personnel matters but eventually revealed Rabalais was retiring after first only stating there were "no terminations at the police department."
Sources said the split was not amicable. Rabalais has already been removed from campus staff directories and there was some confusion at the LSU Police office Friday morning when WBRZ called to ask about the chief and who was in charge ahead of LSU releasing information later.
According to records obtained by the WBRZ News 2 Investigative Unit, Rabalais was making around $110,000 a year.
LSU said Maj. Bart Thompson will oversee administrative and operational matters while the university looks for a new chief.
