The mayor's call for unity may be further dividing the city. That's what a former East Baton Rouge Metro councilman says about Sharon Weston Broome's recognition of Malcolm X.
Broome last week proclaimed Friday as Malcolm X Day, while also calling for unity across Baton Rouge.
Former Councilman Joel Boe said Tuesday that seems hypocritical since Malcolm X preached segregation, but the mayor's office tells The Advocate Malcolm X in his later years called for all races to work together.
