Baton Rouge Hotel Tax Moves Forward

Putting your visiting relatives up at a hotel is a step closer to costing you more.

A bill that would raise the tax on Baton Rouge hotels and motels passed a Senate committee Thursday. The two-percent hike is expected to bring in $2 million a year, but it only applies to some parts of the city.

The bill sponsored by Baton Rouge State Senator Regina Barrow does not apply to Baker, Central Zachary and the BR North Economic Development District.
