Divorce Bill Fails in the Louisiana House

After hearing arguments pro and con, the Louisiana House defeats a bill to shorten the wait period for some couples seeking a divorce.

The author of the bill wanted to end the shorter period for a married couple with children under 18.  Currently they have to wait a year, while couples with children over 18, or who have no children, only have to wait six months. Those against the proposal argued the additional time gives the couple more time to change their mind.

The floor vote is nine short of the 53 needed to pass.
