State Police have released more details into the cause of the fiery wreck on I-10 Wednesday that killed one and injured six.
They say an 18-wheeler driven by Harvey Harris, 48, of Sheridan, Arkansas failed to slow down as he approached afternoon congestion on I-10 eastbound and struck two vehicles, including a car driven by Ronald Allen, 26, of Alexandria.
The impact pushed Allen's car into the rear of another 18-wheeler, crushing his Chevrolet Impala between the two and causing a fire to break out. Allen suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
WBRZ News 2 reports that Allen's car was "unrecognizable" when it was pulled from the wreckage. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
I-10 fully reopened Thursday morning.
