LOUISIANA (WBRZ) - A man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly struck his 8-month-old son with a belt.
According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, 28-year-old Darius Hasbert was arrested after his live-in girlfriend found several bruises on their 8-month-old son.
After the child's mother came home from work, she noticed several marks on the child's forehead and a scratch under his left eye. She called Hasbert, who was watching her children while she was away, to question him about the marks. The mother says Hasbert became defensive and angry when questioned about the marks on her son.
The mother then spoke with her 6-year-old child, who said Hasbert spanked her brother with a belt three times because he was "crying too much."
She immediately brought her son to Our Lady of the Lake hospital where staff observed several red marks on the child's legs, a bruise across his outer left thigh, and red marks on his face.
The hospital notified the Department of Children and Family services. The crime scene detectives were also notified to take photographic documentation of the marks on the child.
Hasbert was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one charge of cruelty to juveniles.
Deputies also noted that Hasbert was previously arrested on separate cruelty to juvenile charges in December 2015.
